Lawyer and Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Agyapa Mercer has commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift response to the plight of customers of Menzgold, a gold dealership firm.

The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has declared the embattled Chief Executive Officer of the gold firm, Nana Appiah Mensah, wanted.

This follows an Accra Circuit Court order for the immediate arrest of all directors of the company.

According to information, an arrest warrant has been issued for four main Directors of Menzgold; Nana Appiah Mensah, his wife Rose Tetteh, Benedicta Appiah and Abigail Mensah.

The other three whose names appeared on the warrant document were listed on the registration documents of Menzgold Ghana as Directors and are also relatives of Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly called NAM1.

The court warrant documents stated their offense as “Defrauding by false pretense contrary to section 131 of 29/60” for which reason they were wanted.

The warrant further stated “You are hereby ordered in the name of the President forthwith to apprehend the said Nana Appiah Mensah and produce him before court”.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme on Thursday, Hon. Agyapa Mercer told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh that "the step that the Ghana Police Service, through their Criminal Investigations Department, have taken by issuing or obtaining a court order for the arrest of NAM1 and subsequently engaging Interpol to help them to effect his arrest to face the laws appropriately is a step in the right direction”.

To him, it is a prudent action towards resolving the financial scandal and also to ensure that the challenges by customers of Menzgold to retrieve their monies from the gold firm are tackled.
