Politicians’ scam begin from basic schools – Franklin Cudjoe

The incidence of ‘promise and fail’, commonly practised by politicians to woo electorates to vote for them begins at the basic education level, outspoken social commentator Franklin Cudjoe has alleged.

The President of the think tank, IMANI Ghana who took to Facebook narrated that an election exercise for the position of a Senior Prefect resulted in the candidate who made the most unattainable promises winning. He shared that the situation angered his son.
“My son also says what annoyed him most about the candidate that won, was his promise to build a Wrestling Stadium for the school when the school has no space for such.”
His post drew a divided set of reactions from the public; some thought it was hilarious while others described it as a pathetic reality.
“My second son in Class 4 just informed me about the outcome of a vote that took place in his school for the post of a Senior Prefect. He tells me, the candidate who made the most unattainable promises won. My son also says what annoyed him most about the candidate that won, was his promise to build a Wrestling Stadium for the school when the school has no space for such. So, there you are...you see where the scam begins.”

He however added in another post that "... beyond political parties, most, if not all of us have made promises of the moon to people."
He admonished the public to be circumspect in making promises and urged people to "Promise only what you can deliver especially if you are going to use public money to deliver."
Two and half years into the Akufo-Addo administration, Ghanaians have been divided on the performance of the NPP government.
Some people are of the view that this administration is the best thing to have happened to the citizenry while others argue that the promise and fail agenda runs through all the political parties.
