Private health providers threaten to go 'cash & carry' after 10-day ultimatum to NHIA

The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAG) has given the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) a 10-day ultimatum to clear outstanding payments, threatening to revert to a cash-and-carry system if unpaid.

Minority Members of Parliament's Health Committee claim the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is bankrupt, with the NHIA receiving no funds from the Ministry of Finance this year and holding less than GH₵1 million.

PHFAG Vice President Samuel Boakye Donkor stated they will stop honoring NHIS cards from June 7 if unpaid.

NHIA CEO Dacosta Aboagye countered, claiming the authority's financial health is robust.
