Members of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) will begin an indefinite strike today, October 21, 2024, due to the government's failure to implement institution-specific allowances.
The PSWU claims the lack of action has worsened financial strain on public service workers.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has urged the union to reconsider, warning that the strike will halt ongoing negotiations.
The PSWU is also frustrated by delays in implementing recommendations from a 2022 committee reviewing public sector pay policies.
The FWSC insists it's following due process but says a strike violates labor laws and agreements.
