Punish officers who brutalised demonstrators – Kofi Bentil charges government
Kofi Bentil says the reassignment of the BNI boss was apt.
Vice President of IMANI Ghana, Kofi Bentil has lauded the reassignment of the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), William Kwasi Appiah but expects a “quick action” to be taken against the controversial defence cooperation agreement between Ghana and the US.
Read full article He asserts that the manner issues surrounding the arrest and detention of the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, were handled, leaves much to be desired, hence, the removal of the BNI boss was apt.
In a tweet, the legal brain also called on authorities to bring police personnel who brutalized civilians who followed Mr. Anyidoho to the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) headquarters to book.
Mr. Appiah, according to Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah has been reassigned to the Ministry.
The announcement came a day after former President John Mahama and some officials of the NDC were allowed access to Anyidoho, who was in the custody of the BNI. The group took pictures with Anyidoho which went viral on social media.
There are claims that Mr. Appiah was reassigned due to his poor handling of the case involving the NDC scribe.
Anyidoho was picked up by the CID on Tuesday for making some comments deemed treasonable. While commenting on the ratification of the controversial defence cooperation agreement between Ghana and the US, Anyidoho stated that President Akufo-Addo will be overthrown just like his father was in 1972.
But Mr. Bentil joining the chorus of criticisms against the US deal said it must be rejected adding that, the arrest of Anyidoho was totally needless.
“It doesn't matter that the head of BNI was not in town, he was still responsible for the Koku mess. Removing him is good. NPP well done,” his tweet read.
“Now let's see what happens to the US Agreement and those who brutalised the civilians. Quick action will be very well received as atonement” he added.
