Leonardo Santos Simão, UN Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, has stressed the importance of clear communication by Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) to strengthen public trust ahead of the 2024 elections.
While he acknowledged the EC's transparency efforts, Simão suggested that effective communication is crucial to meet rising public expectations.
Trust in the EC has dropped significantly, with only 28% of Ghanaians expressing confidence, down from 59% in 2012, according to Afrobarometer.
Simão urged the EC to address voters' concerns openly, highlighting that improved communication could foster greater transparency and inclusivity.
