Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has clarified that recent power outages in Ghana are not due to load-shedding by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Addressing Parliament, he attributed the intermittent outages to various factors such as local overloads, transformer issues, and increased power demand in areas like East Legon.
He also cited specific incidents, including an emergency shutdown at CenPower causing a 40 MW loss, ongoing maintenance at Amandi power plant, and emergency outages requested by GRIDCo.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized that these incidents were unplanned, hence ECG did not announce a load-shedding schedule.
