Release Democracy Hub protesters immediately – GJA President demands

GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has urged the government, judiciary, and police to release Democracy Hub protesters remanded after their recent demonstration.

Although the protest initially aimed to be peaceful, it turned violent from September 21-23, with clashes leading to blocked roads, destroyed property, and 54 arrests.

Dwumfour acknowledged police professionalism but criticized the two-week remand as “too extreme” and harmful to human rights.

He called for a balanced approach to justice, highlighting his concerns during the 28th GJA Media Awards on September 28, 2024.

Protesters remain in custody, awaiting their next court hearing on October 8.
