The Ashanti Region Online Drivers Union (ARODU) has raised ride-hailing fares effective August 5, citing fuel price hikes and vehicle maintenance costs after unsuccessful negotiations with app companies to increase driver commissions.
Union Chairman Isaac Baffour Boateng justified the decision, emphasizing drivers' financial struggles and the need to offset rising expenses.
He announced that drivers would no longer accept fares below GHC20, regardless of bonuses offered by the app companies.
This move has sparked dissatisfaction among customers, who argue that the fare increase unfairly impacts their finances and urges both parties to resolve the issue.
