It has emerged that an amount of GHC 47,300 from the bank account of Amaniampong Senior High School (AMASS) cannot be accounted for.
According to the findings of a body set to audit the school’s account, the irregularity stems from the fact that the said account had not been audited for a while.
Frederick Addae, a former headmaster of AMASS is solely expected to account for the misappropriation of a cash amount of GHC22,239, the findings and recommendations say.
The body was tasked to investigate into the operations of account number 1161220001090281 with the Otuasekan Rural Bank, Mampong Branch for the period of January 2015 to December 2015 and has communicated in its report that the former headmaster failed to produce official receipts books for audit and is subsequently tasked to present the value books or risk been surcharged.
According to the report, the account was purposely opened to collect examination fees and the purchase and sale of student supplies.
It added that though Mr T. Aboagye, a former headmaster disclosed the operation of the account in his handing over notes to Mr. Addae, the latter never disclosed the existence of the account in his handing over notes to his predecessor, Mrs Martha Owusu Agyemang and claimed it was an oversight when he appeared before the body.
Having been provided with payment vouchers, cheque books, store ledgers, store receipts vouchers, and official receipt books, the audit report said “misappropriation of cash amounted to GHC 22,239” and “recommended that the former headmaster, Mr Frederick Addae should be held responsible to account for the amount of the GHC 22,239.”
It also mentioned that an amount of GHC 14,400 was not fully accounted for, adding that Mr Addae and Mr Geoffrey Appau, current Accountant of the school should account for the money.
An amount of GHC 10,581 is also expected to be recovered from Mr Addae and the former bursar.
