The 2016 flagbearer and founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom is calling for the removal of all seven commissioners of Ghana’s Electoral Commission.
According to him, the commissioners have caused embarrassment to the state by their actions and inactions.
The chairperson of the electoral commission Charlotte Osei, on one hand, and two of her deputies Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah, on the other, have been engrossed in a public spat with each camp accusing the other of misconduct and breach of rules governing the commission.
Separate petitions demanding their removal from office have been forwarded to the chief justice after they were received by the Presidency.
Speaking on ATV Thursday, the business magnate said the commissioners, including those who are not involved in the impasse, can no longer continue to stay in office.
“I’m putting it all back to how the EC has been set up and how it has been working over the years. We must find ways to improve the laws that ensure their appointment. But Before we go onto that, those people sitting there as commissioners, by right, we should all demand that they should go, they should be sacked, all the commissioners”.
