Programs Director at the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Awelana Addah is of a strong view that the only way to stop corrupt practices and deter others from engaging in such practices is to name state entities in the country after culprits.

“We should be naming streets after people that have been cited for some infractions to deter others from wanting to even engage. We should also ensure that our investigative bodies and also the processes of adjudication are also effective,” she suggested in an interview MyNewsGh.com monitored on Starr FM.

A survey conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) revealed that 62% of Ghanaians are not confident in the Nana Addo-led NPP government to protect the country’s financial resources and curb corruption in the next four years.

Speaking to it, Mary Adda said, “We should be able to protect them and let Ghanaians see that there are people of integrity and need to be protected. And when people do things that are despicable, that are in contravention of our laws, our leaders should be sanctioning and we as the community should also be naming and shaming.”

She also told the host: “Leadership, commitment, and action is important when people are cited. The posturing of leadership and in this case I mean the President should show more leadership in actions rather than in words”.
