Mary Awelana Addah, Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), has called for measures to reduce single-sourcing procurement in the public sector.
Single-sourcing involves purchasing from a specific supplier without competitive bidding, a practice legal in certain situations but often linked to corruption.
Addah highlighted that about 85% of public procurement is through single sourcing, which compromises the integrity of the process.
She stressed that competitive tendering is essential to prevent corruption, especially in sectors like education and health, aligning with IMF recommendations to enhance transparency and benefit the private sector.
