The Electoral Commissioner Charlotte Osei has welcomed the selection of Justice Sophia Akuffo as Ghana’s next Chief Justice.
Ms. Akuffo was outdoored by President Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House Friday.
she takes over from her ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood who retires in June. She will be the 13th person at the post and first to be handed over by another woman.
In a statement, the EC chair said the competence of the new Chief Justice is indisputable.
“I am totally thrilled at the nomination of Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo JSC as our next Chief Justice. I first met Her Ladyship in 1992 as a young law student at her office at Mobil House where she was General Counsel at the time.
“Her knowledge of the law is solid. She’s an extremely brilliant woman, with solid credentials and solid integrity. I believe she will lead our judiciary with wisdom and purpose. We pray that God grants her strength, courage, and wisdom. Congratulations, Her Ladyship,” Mrs. Osei wrote.
