Ernest Kofi Abotsi, Dean of UPSA Law School, has clarified that the Supreme Court may lack the authority to overrule the Speaker of Parliament on internal matters within his jurisdiction.
He explained that Speaker Alban Bagbin holds the constitutional power to determine parliamentary proceedings, such as declaring seats vacant.
The Supreme Court's role, according to Abotsi, is limited to reviewing whether the Speaker acted within his legal boundaries, not interfering with routine parliamentary decisions.
This comes amid a legal challenge by NPP MPs after Bagbin declared four seats vacant, shifting parliamentary control to the opposition NDC.
