Fri, 26 Sep 1997 Source: --

Tamale,(Northern Region) 24, Sept. The Tamale Municipal Assembly (TMA) has given property rate defaulters up to September 29 to settle their bills or face prosecution. About 1,000 defaulters, including some prominent persons in the municipality, are owing the assembly a total of 90 million cedis. The Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Baba Ibrahima disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale yesterday. He said the decision to compel the defaulters to settle their bills was arrived at in a resolution passed during the assembly's meeting held recently. He said the hope of the assembly to use the property rate revenue to complement the common fund in the area of development has been jeopardised because of the failure of the defaulters to settle their bills. He warned that the assembly will not compromise with any defaulter who fails to meet the September deadline.
