Thieves have broken into and stolen electrical cables from the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The incident occurred over the weekend, according to officials at the EC. There are fears if the situation is not resolved immediately, it could affect the conduct of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Confirming the incident to Accra News on Monday November 21, the Deputy Returning Officer of the EC in Berekum, PK Ofori Kyeremeh, narrated: “When we came to the office today, we realised the lights were off. We thought it was the prepaid credit that was finished and so we tried to top up. When we attempted, we realised the cables connected to the meter had been removed; in fact they had been stolen.”
He added that they had reported the matter to the Berekum police.
