World Teachers Day was celebrated with excitement by telecom operator, Tigo, as management and staff returned to the various locations of their CSR flagship programme, ‘Shelter 4 Education’.

It is the first official visit since handing over the schools in August 2015.

They interacted with the teachers and pupils in their new environment and volunteered to teach ICT and offer career guidance and counselling.

The schools include African Faith Basic School in Banda Ahenkro; Tupa M. A. Basic School in the GA South district of the Greater Accra region; Obeng Yaw Basic School in Adeiso, Eastern region; and Dimabi DA Primary School in the Tolon Kumbungu District of the Northern region.

Others are Ahiawoanwu Basic School in Ejura and the St. Joseph School for Children with Special needs in Obuasi, Ashanti region.

The schools received massive infrastructure support from Tigo.

Under its ‘Shelter 4 Education’ programme, Dimabi DA Basic School and the St Joseph School for Children with Special needs were renovated and furnished with teaching and learning materials.

The other 4 schools, which were in makeshift structures each received a brand new fully furnished Six-unit Classroom block with Staff common room, Head teacher’s office and toilet facilities.

The CEO of Tigo, Roshi Motman, underscored the importance of quality teaching and learning and pledged Tigo’s continued support to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
