The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has raised concerns about John Mahama’s pledge to pay fees for all first-year university students if elected.
UTAG suggests that instead of covering fees for everyone, the funds should be given as bursaries targeted at needy students or managed directly by universities.
They warn that without addressing broader funding and infrastructure issues, the policy could strain already underfunded institutions.
Meanwhile, the NDC disagrees, arguing that making the policy universal would prevent potential abuse and ensure all students benefit.
