The United States has implemented a visa restriction policy to protect democracy in Ghana ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections.
This policy, announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, targets individuals undermining democratic processes, including election manipulation, violence, or intimidation of voters, political representatives, or media.
The policy aims to support Ghana’s peaceful, transparent elections without targeting the general public or government. Under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the policy also extends to certain family members of those who violate democratic principles.
