The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has attributed the malfunctioning and absence of streetlights on the Accra-Tema Motorway to theft and vandalism by some citizens.
Public Relations Officer Cecil Nii Obodai Wentum revealed that stolen streetlights and removed metal covers and underground cables have left sections of the motorway in darkness, increasing accident risks and pedestrian safety concerns.
He called for stricter penalties for offenders and assured that new streetlights are being procured to address the issue.
Wentum also highlighted the impact of the government’s debt exchange program on road infrastructure projects but assured improvements are forthcoming.
