Today, November 12, the Supreme Court is set to deliver a pivotal ruling on Speaker Alban Bagbin's decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, sparking a legal standoff.

Bagbin’s move, made without judicial review or by-elections, has faced challenges led by New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who argues the Speaker overstepped his constitutional powers.

At issue is the Speaker's interpretation of the 1992 Constitution concerning vacancies, with Afenyo-Markin contending that such authority lies with the judiciary.

The Attorney-General also questioned the legality of Bagbin's counsel, Thaddeus Sory, who missed a court appearance and failed to submit required filings.

The ruling could reshape Parliament's procedures and Speaker-judiciary dynamics.
