The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has rubbished claims that some persons are being trained in China to doctor results of strongholds of the New Patriotic Party in the December 7 polls.
Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was captured on tape alleging that the Commission is planning on rigging the December elections in favour of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This allegation by the lawmaker has raised some serious eyebrows among many in political circles.
But at a media encounter in Kumasi, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission Georgina Opoku Amankwa debunked the allegations and challenged Kennedy Agyapong to provide proof of his claims.
“I am hearing it for the first time though and I don’t know of any plans like that,” she stated.
“So these trained Ghanaians in China, are they going to work over there or they will be coming to work in this strong room? I am surprised, why did he say this?” she asked. “Well, the EC is saying that there is nothing like that so he should come back again and maybe challenge the EC to also let him know more.
“EC has always been saying that there are going to be two biometric devices in each polling station so that one will serve as a backup.” Mrs Amankwa charged the media to demand proof of that allegation.
She explained that it is impossible for the EC to embark on such a venture. “Please there is nothing like that.
I hope you will get him and question him further because we don’t know of any such thing and I don’t even know the possibility of that”.
