Emma Osei-Duah, Director of Communications at Zoomlion, Ghana, hs acknowledged delays in paying sanitation workers, stating that they have gone unpaid for nine months, not a year.
She attributed the delay to contract issues with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), which requires Zoomlion to pre-finance salaries before reimbursement.
Ongoing negotiations between Zoomlion and YEA have prolonged the situation, prompting YEA’s Executive Officer, Kofi Baah Agyapong, to demand a review of the contract. Under the current terms, sweepers receive GH₵ 250 out of GH₵ 850 paid by the government, with the remaining GH₵ 600 covering management and logistics fees.
