The Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, has strongly stated that the Police Service will not allow any group of persons to foment trouble before, during and after the December elections.

“We are trying to bring everybody on board; the chiefs, the youth, the parties…as an institution, I assure you that wherever this violence, we shall do everything possible to curb them as they occur.

“I assure you that we shall leave a very secured society and environment after the elections,” the IGP Kudalor said in an address to journalists after observing a police simulation exercise on Friday.

The comments by the IGP come after Electoral Commission (EC) identified 81 constituencies out of the 275 as possible violent-prone areas before, during and after the 2016 general election.

The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, who announced this, said the EC had started a project, together with the Ghana Police Service, to map out all the polling stations in the country, especially those in the flashpoints, to ensure adequate security at all polling centres and the EC’s regional offices.

The Police Service has already revealed that, it has identified 5,000 hotspots in the forthcoming elections, which must be managed to avoid violence.
