The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged members of the party not to be disheartened by reports that the party will go into the 2016 election with a divided front.
Nana Addo said the party was aware that some of its members might have been paid by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to try and cause confusion in the party so that it could be defeated in the 2016 elections.
“The NDC is frightened out of its wits because its massive corruption and incompetence have become evident to the electorate as a whole. So the NDC is sparing neither effort nor cash to try and use the NPP's own machinery to sabotage the party's cause. But the paid infiltrators would be fished out by the Mighty Elephant, Kukurudu and trampled underfoot”, he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing party supporters in the UK during a fundraising dinner dance on Saturday.
Nana Akufo-Addo declared that the NPP would not be cowed by machinations being hatched from outside the party.
It was his first subtle reaction to the recent security breach at the party headquarters and; one which had him addressing varied issues pertaining to his party's preparedness for next year's polls, which he said the NPP must win.
"We are not about to throw away our proud heritage and no machinations are going to weaken us," he stressed.
Ghana Sinking
The NDC, Nana Addo said, has nothing to campaign on, adding that "the election is there for us to win. The president, he said, "can go on shouting that they have not borrowed too much. It would not change the fact that Ghana is drowning in debt."
Nana Akufo-Addo said he had noticed that "they no longer talk about corruption. I suspect they know they would choke on the word".
The NDC, he said, would resort to lies, divisive politics and personal attacks but these notwithstanding, Ghanaians according to him can see through them.
He charged his party faithful to take their message "to their supporters, those who are indifferent and those who don't support us. I am not afraid of hard work. I am itching to go to every village, every town."
He charged those who can come home to join in the campaign to do so. Those who are unable to do so, he said, should send their contributions towards the cause of the party, adding, "I will not let you down."
