Where should people defecate? - Obiri Boahen asks groups calling for Ghana’s lockdown

Highlighting several implications of locking down the country, Nana Obiri Boahen said those who publicly queue up to attend to nature’s call will suffer greatly.

He said the mere fact that these advocates have access to improved toilets and bathrooms in their homes should not drive them into making such inconsiderable and hasty decisions.

“If I hear people calling for a lockdown, I get surprised. It is because those calling for the total lockdown have toilets in each of the rooms in their house. You see those homeless people, where should they defecate or bath? If they had the kind of toilet facilities you have, won't they be also happy and comfortable?” he stated.

He also emphasized on the fact that a total lockdown will lead to hunger and starvation as most families depend on their daily income to feed themselves.

“Have you thought of the pure water seller who makes less than 20cedis a day? Those who would have to go to the farm before they can eat? Those living from hand to mouth, how should they cope? We were all not born with a silver spoon in our mouth,” he added.

Meanwhile, several groups including the Ghana Medical Association, Bureau of Public Safety, and Ghana Health Service are mounting pressure on the government to lock down the country.
