Niger's new school year will be delayed until October 28 due to severe flooding caused by relentless rainfall.

The floods have affected schools and displaced people, forcing authorities to postpone the start date from October 2.

The disaster has claimed over 300 lives and impacted more than 800,000 people, with many now sheltering in temporary tents.

Niger, along with other West African countries, is experiencing some of the worst floods in 30 years, attributed to climate change.

The government is providing relief, but concerns remain over damaged cultural landmarks, including historic sites in Zinder and Agadez.
