Kenyan police have banned protests in Nairobi's center and surrounding areas, citing safety concerns due to their leaderless nature.

This follows a month of anti-government protests that have resulted in numerous deaths. Initially sparked by tax hikes, the protests have expanded to include demands for President William Ruto's resignation.

Despite the ban, more protests are planned. The police cited credible intelligence of criminal groups infiltrating the protests and difficulties in enforcing safety protocols.

The ban has been met with outrage online, with some arguing it violates citizens' rights. At least 50 protesters have been killed and 413 injured since June 18.
