Kenya's impeached deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, said his security detail was withdrawn, warning that President William Ruto would be responsible if anything happened to him.
Gachagua, who is challenging his impeachment in court, claims the charges are politically motivated. He supported Ruto in the 2022 elections but has since fallen out with him.
Gachagua was impeached on five charges, including violating the constitution and inciting ethnic hatred, which he denies.
Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki was approved as Gachagua's replacement, but a court has delayed the swearing-in pending legal challenges. Ruto has not commented on the impeachment.
