Kenyan senators have impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, despite his absence from the trial due to illness.

Gachagua faced 11 charges, including inciting ethnic divisions and violating his oath of office.

Senators upheld key charges, leading to his removal from office, ending months of tensions between Gachagua and President William Ruto.

Gachagua, who described the process as a "political lynching," loses his position and future public office eligibility.

In response, Ruto nominated Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki as his new deputy, further consolidating his political authority.
