In Mozambique, lawyer Elvino Dias, who represented opposition figure Venâncio Mondlane, was shot dead along with fellow Podemos party official Paulo Guambe in the capital, Maputo.

The attack happened days after Mondlane ran for president.

Local rights groups condemned the "cold-blooded murder," as the men were shot with around 10 to 15 bullets.

Witnesses allege police obstructed an ambulance from evacuating Guambe, who later died, and engaged in intimidation by confiscating phones.

Police denied the accusations and promised a thorough investigation.

The EU called for an independent inquiry, citing concerns about post-election violence and intimidation.
