Mozambican opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane claims he survived an assassination attempt in South Africa, where he sought refuge after contesting recent election results.

In a Facebook video, he said assassins targeted his home, forcing him to flee with his family.

Mondlane's election defeat to ruling party candidate Daniel Chapo has sparked widespread protests in Mozambique, leading to violent clashes with police, restricted internet access, and a general strike.

Police reportedly killed multiple protesters, including children.

Mondlane calls for a "final march" in Maputo on Thursday, marking the end of a seven-day protest against the contested results.
