NJC suspends two Nigerian judges over misconduct, recommends two others for compulsory retirement over age falsification
The National Judicial Council (NJC), led by Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sanctioned five judges for misconduct.
Justice G. C. Aguma (Rivers State) and Justice A. O. Nwabunike (Anambra State) were suspended for one year without pay and placed on a two-year watchlist.
Aguma was found guilty of aiding improper court processes, while Nwabunike abused judicial powers.
Chief Judge T. E. Chikeka (Imo State) and Grand Kadi Babagana Mahdi (Yobe State) face compulsory retirement for falsifying their ages. Both were ordered to refund salaries earned after their official retirement dates.
Additionally, Justice I. A. Jamil (Kogi State) received a caution.
The NJC emphasized its commitment to maintaining integrity in the judiciary.
