Summit taking place in Elmau, Germany

Senegal, South Africa in attendance as partner nations


Only four Africans are participating in the ongoing G7 summit in the Germany, they consist of two Presidents and two international civil servants.

The two presidents said to be from partner countries of the G7 are South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa and Senegal's Macky Sall - the latter is also the current Chairman of the African Union.

The two others are Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization boss, who is Ethiopian and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, WTO - a Nigerian.

Deliberations at the summit taking place in Elmau are centered on the Russia-Ukraine crisis and its impact on global security and economies.

The G7 official website wrote: "A strong, rules-based international order cannot be achieved without solidarity and cooperation among the world’s democracies – both within the G7 and beyond.

"Global partnerships and initiatives are needed to make real progress on the important challenges facing the world of the future.

"This is why the G7 members are not just keeping to themselves in Elmau: Germany has invited five partner countries to attend the Summit that stand for freedom and the rule of law: Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa."

The Group of Seven is an inter-governmental political forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. In addition, the European Union is a 'non-enumerated member'
