The world’s most expensive women’s footballer in history suffered a serious knee injury as Zambia progressed to the next round of qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Racheal Kundananji picked up the injury around the 60th minute mark and was forced to sub out of the game in the 64th minute on a stretcher.
She was pictured being helped to walk as she left the sidelines into the dressing room in tears in the second leg of the qualifier.
Without Kundananji, Zambia managed to scrape through to the next stage of the qualifiers as Zambia drew 3-3 with Ghana’s Black Queens.
The draw gave Zambia a 4-3 win on aggregate thanks to a 96th minute free kick goal by Zambia captain Barbra Banda. Kundananki scored to give Zambia a 1-0 win over Ghana in the first leg on Friday, February 23.
Ghana midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe was sent off for picking up a second yellow card and Banda scored from the ensuing free kick to give Zambia the crucial equalizer.
Gifty Assifuah, Doris Boaduwaa and Bugri Azumah scored for the Black Queens; Zambia play Morocco in the next round in April.
