Senegal's government has launched a 25-year development plan aimed at achieving economic sovereignty through competitiveness, sustainable resource management, and good governance.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the initiative seven months after his election, emphasizing the need to diversify the economy and strengthen the local private sector.

The plan includes a $30.1 billion budget for its first phase from 2025-2029, targeting a reduction of the budget deficit to 3% of GDP and increasing access to electricity to 100%.

With a snap legislative election approaching, Faye is under pressure to fulfill his promises, especially to the disenfranchised youth.
