Tunisia's President Kais Saied has won a second term with over 90% of the vote in an election marred by criticism from rights groups.

Only two candidates opposed him, and voter turnout was just 29% of the nine million registered voters.

His main challenger, Ayachi Zammel, received 7% despite being sentenced to prison shortly before the election. There were no campaign rallies, and most campaign materials supported Saied.

Critics have labeled the elections unfair, citing Saied's consolidation of power since his 2019 election.

Amnesty International has condemned a decline in fundamental rights under his rule. Final results will be announced next month.
