Authorities in Eldoret, Kenya, removed statues of three athletes after they were widely ridiculed for being poorly made and unrecognizable.
The statues were meant to honor the town's rich athletic heritage as it gained city status.
However, locals and online users criticized the works, particularly for their supposed depictions of world-record holder Faith Kipyegon and marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, calling them embarrassing and substandard.
The statues were removed overnight before the city's official ceremony, but it’s unclear if or when they will be replaced.
