Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Technology in Namibia, Emma Inamutila Theofelus has mentioned that the youth in Africa are successful in all spheres of their lives.

Speaking with Y 107.9 FM’s Kojo Manuel at the ‘Youth Connekt Africa Summit' in Ghana, she mentioned that young Africans were successful people and were versatile beings who were combining different kinds of activities and roles in society and only needed government support to chalk successes for themselves and the African continent at large.

"Young people are successful in all spheres, governments institutions and powers have to support them all this narrative and youth bias about young are lazy, young people are not serious young people think about parties all the time, it is a balance of life, we are young, we can only be young once but at the same time we are running social enterprises, we are being social entrepreneurs, we are going to school, we are trying to innovate, we are creatives, all of that can co-exist and young people in this continent particularly show that it can co-exist, so we just need the support, so that everything we do actually succeed not only for us but the for the continent," she said.

The minister who doubles up as a member of parliament in the Namibian republic advised the youth in Africa to connect with themselves and should take advantage of the social media platforms and interconnect with themselves.

"We need to find ways to get connected, the social media platforms are there to connect us, the digital platforms are there to connect us, let us leverage on that," she added.

She further mentioned that the youth take advantage and possess the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and encouraged inter-trade activities among themselves as the youth in Europe and America are doing.

Youth Connekt Africa Hub (YCA) is an African home-grown solution positioned to provide relevant solutions for the global South and to support the implementation of relevant South-South initiatives to empower youth. The YCA Hub operates as a pan-African platform with the vision of connecting African youth for socio-economic transformation. This 2021 edition of the summit is ongoing in Accra, Ghana from 20th – 22nd October 2021.
