Ghana basketball has been crippled for several years due to the lack of adequate facilities but that could soon end per the latest developments.
Reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate recently appointed Basketball Africa League Vice President of Operations and Head of Strategy is set to engage in high-level talks with Ghana’s government on the construction of a 5000 seater indoor arena.
However, what is presently available is not far behind in terms of seating capacity and amenities with SSNIT Sports Emporium at Bukom recently opening its basketball court for use by the public.
The facility’s seating capacity is 3000 and is ready to host 3×3 Basketball Games and in the near future standard basketball games.
This is down to the markings on the court which does not align with basketball world governing body FIBA standards Basketballghana.com gathers. The uncovered arena presents weather challenges most courts in Ghana face on a daily basis.
3×3 Basketball is on the rise in Ghana and has been the West African nation’s biggest chance to represent on the international stage.
Teams from Ghana have competed at continental competitions including the African Beach Games held in Cape Verde in June.
