Ghana’s 2024 National Farmers' Day celebrations, themed “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” commenced with a focus on strengthening agricultural resilience.
The week-long events include the Agrifest exhibition at Efua Sutherland Children’s Park from November 4 to 8, allowing stakeholders to showcase their products.
A Farmers’ Forum, facilitated by the Agricultural Development Bank, will address critical agricultural issues on November 6. The celebrations conclude with an awards ceremony on November 8, where President Akufo-Addo will honor top farmers.
Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Paul Siameh, highlighted government efforts to counteract near-drought conditions in major grain-producing areas by providing fertilizers and resources to ensure stable food production.
He reported a stable food supply and contingency plans for potential shortages, while urging traders not to inflate prices during the festive season.
MoFA is also working to improve poultry production with government-supported feed, chicks, and medications, anticipating an increase in poultry supply for the Christmas period.
