Benjamin Boakye, Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), has criticized the government’s approach to local content in energy projects, calling it superficial.
He argued that local content should go beyond simply involving Ghanaians in business, emphasizing the need to build domestic production capacity.
Boakye suggested that policies should focus on skills transfer, local innovation, and fostering long-term economic growth.
To make Ghana a leader in renewable energy, he called for investments in research and development, support for student-led innovations, and the creation of local prototypes.
Citing Brazil’s success with ethanol, he urged Ghana to focus on producing energy locally rather than relying on imports.
