Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), emphasized the importance of ethical conduct in building a resilient financial system during the 28th Annual Banking and Ethics Conference in Accra.
He highlighted the Chartered Institute of Bankers’ Ethics Certification Programme, launched with BoG’s support, which mandates all banking staff to complete and annually recertify their ethical training.
Addison stressed that integrity and professionalism are essential for public trust. He also addressed the structural causes of bank failures, citing unviable business models, and noted that BoG is introducing Business Model Analysis (BMA) to identify vulnerabilities early.
The BoG recently completed a financial clean-up, reducing the number of banks in Ghana from 34 to 23 and closing several microfinance institutions and savings houses.
