The Bank of Ghana (BoG) will commission its new headquarters, “The Bank Square,” in Accra on November 20, with President Nana Akufo-Addo as the guest of honor.
The $250 million project has faced criticism, especially after BoG reported a significant loss of 10.5 billion cedis in 2023.
Critics, including MP Yusif Suleman, questioned the decision to continue with the high-cost construction amid financial challenges.
BoG Special Advisor Stephen Opata defended the project, stating that halting it would have been inefficient due to its advanced stage and existing contractor commitments.
Opata emphasized that the losses were influenced by multiple factors and that the new headquarters is essential for BoG’s operations.
