Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) CEO Joseph Boahen Aidoo emphasized the role of local expertise and sustainable practices in the Ghana Tree Crop Diversification Project, urging the team to leverage homegrown skills to ensure the long-term viability of the cocoa industry.
During a meeting at Cocoa House in Accra, he highlighted the initiative's goal to improve productivity and climate resilience in Ghana’s cocoa sector and expand cashew, coconut, and rubber production.
The project, backed by a $227.5 million investment, will support COCOBOD's transition to a paperless system, provide targeted training, and offer farmers innovative agricultural techniques and farm rehabilitation.
The upcoming November 7 launch will focus on select cocoa districts, addressing challenges like the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Disease (CSSVD), with the establishment of a new laboratory at the Cocoa Research Institute to enhance research. This six-year initiative aims to reduce Ghana’s dependency on cocoa and drive sustainable agricultural growth.
