The National Cashew Farmers Association has urged the government to compel the Tree Crops Development Authority to announce a realistic minimum price per kilo for cashews this year.

At a press conference in Wenchi, Bono Region, the association emphasized the impact of the high dollar rate and rising production costs on farmers.

Secretary Yahaya Bellu also appealed for foreign buyers to purchase directly from farm gates if local buyers cannot meet the set price. The farmers warned that failure to address their concerns could influence their decisions in the upcoming elections.

The association called for a policy to elevate cashews as a major cash crop, such as cocoa, and provide financial support for farmers. The National Chairman, Nana Adu Boamponsem VI, commended the government for establishing the Tree Crops Development Authority.
