Chamber of Mines boss calls for exploration and development planning before mining begins

Sulemanu Koney, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, emphasized integrating exploration and development planning into mining operations to align with national and regional development.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he argued that mining should act as a catalyst for broader growth, rather than operate in isolation.

Koney cited an Upper East mining company’s commitment to build an airport before starting operations as an example of forward-thinking.

He urged policymakers to collaborate with mining companies early on, ensuring mining fits into larger community development plans, driving decentralization and regional progress.
