The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has raised concerns about Ghana's growing energy sector debt, which accumulates monthly at $67 million in unpaid obligations.
This is primarily due to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) 's low revenue recovery rate, currently at 57%.
Kodzo Yaotse, ACEP’s Policy Lead, emphasized the need for the government and ECG to prioritize improving revenue collection.
Failing to do so will worsen the debt crisis and impact Independent Power Producers (IPPs), who are already owed significant sums from Ghana's legacy energy debt.
