ECG ‘short-changed energy sector’ leading to Cash Waterfall Mechanism’s collapse – Ex-PURC Board member

Dr. Nii Darko Asante, former PURC board member, blamed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for undermining the Cash Waterfall Mechanism (CWM), designed to ensure fair revenue distribution in the energy sector.

He explained that ECG often prioritizes its own needs, withholding funds from other sector players like GridCo.

Dr. Steve Manteaw of GHEITI highlighted that ECG excludes about 50% of its revenue from the CWM, further damaging its credibility. Both experts called for urgent reforms to improve transparency and ensure equitable distribution of funds across the energy sector.
